Record video captures of your PC and smartphone like a pro – Gadgets Now

Taking screenshots is a useful practice when you need to keep digital proof of something important or memorable. Creating videos of what goes on on your screen takes this to another level. You can share fun in-game moments with friends, create video tutorials for your channel or to provide tech support to those who cannot follow instructions over the phone. The process is quite simple, though not as straightforward as taking screenshots. Just choose the method you want to use based on your needs.

Xbox Game Bar
This feature comes built-in with Windows 10 and is ideally meant for recording in-game footage. But this tool can be used to record the screen even if you are not gaming.

You can summon the Xbox Game Bar with the “Windows logo key + G” keyboard shortcut or manually look for the Xbox Game Bar app in the Windows list of installed programs. With the Game Bar activated, you just have to click the record button to start recording or go through its settings to assign shortcuts (start/stop, screenshot…), choose whether it should record system sounds as well as input from your mic, enable mouse click-throughs, and more. Since this is meant to be for recording gameplay, you can view CPU statistics including the FPS in real-time.

Recordings are saved in MP4 format in the Captures folder, which is accessible from within the Xbox Game Bar itself.
Besides games, you can use this tool to record activities in other apps and windows. However, this tool also has some restrictions. It does not allow you to record the Desktop and when you use the File Explorer. So if your recording requires you to show these then you will need to install a special software.

Platform: Windows 10

NCH Debut Video Capture
If you want more control over what you want to capture then you will need something like NCH’s Debut Video Capture software for Windows and macOS computers. This video capture app lets you record the entire screen, a specific area, or only the active app and save it in various file formats—such as MP4, MOV, WMV, FLV, etc—at various resolutions up to Full HD. You can even configure it to enlarge the picture size in case you want to focus only a portion of the capture area.

Debut will capture from external video capture devices including a webcam and let you include it in the video as an inset, in case you want to include the speaker’s face—called Camera Overlay—in the demonstration or game walkthrough.

Every step of the way, you get many options to configure the camera, audio capture, colour, exposure, mouse visibility settings, schedule recordings and more. Yet, it is intuitive and comes with a manual and video tutorials to help you get acquainted with it. The free version does not add a watermark but it is meant for non-commercial, home use only.

This is a very easy tool that also lets you simultaneously enabling the front camera to record the speaker’s reactions. The app can be configured to sit in a floating dock for quick access or out of your direct view in the notification bar.

XRecorder lets you record up to 2K videos, choose video quality, control the FPS to adjust smoothness, screen orientation and even continue recording when the display is off. It’s not ad-free, but it gets the job done quickly and conveniently.

For iOS devices: A functional screen recording feature is built into iOS devices. Go Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls and add the option Screen Recording. Exit the Settings app, open the Control Center (swipe down from the top right corner) and tap the screen recording button. Long-pressing this very same button will give the option to enable the mic for audio recording.

Alternatively, you can use an app called RecordIt, which also lets you include the front cam in the video to record your reactions. Once you are done, a simple editing tool lets you trim and apply colour filters to the video.
